Board Meetings

The Knox County Board of Health meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the department conference room. The meetings are open to the public and there is a time allocated at the beginning of every meeting for public participation . Board meeting dates occasionally change due to holidays and other events. If you are planning on attending, please call 740-392-2200, Ext. 2221, to verify location and start time.

Special board of health meetings are held as needed. These meetings are announced in the local media as required by Ohio's Open Meetings Law.

Board Members

The Knox County Board of Health is comprised of nine members; five members are appointed by the Knox County District Advisory Council; three members are appointed by the Mount Vernon City Council; and one is appointed by the Knox County Licensing Council. Board member terms are five years. There are no term limits.

In addition to appointing board members, the Knox County District Advisory Council brings recommendations and health issue concerns to the Board’s attention. The council is composed of the chairman of each township’s board of trustees or a designee, the mayor of each village and the president of the Knox County Board of Commissioners. The council meets at least once a year, usually on the last Tuesday in March.

The Knox County Licensing Council is comprised of one representative from the businesses whose activities are licensed by the Board of Health, which include: food service operations, retail food establishments, manufactured home parks, public swimming pools and campgrounds. Each council member serves a five-year term.
