Safe Communities

Every year hundreds of citizens in every community Air Freshener Artwork for web
are injured due to traffic crashes. Traffic crash injuries are
one of the most overlooked public health problems today,
but we are working to change that. The Knox County Safe
Communities Coalition is a community based program
designed to promote safe driving practices and create
awareness and prevention of injuries caused by traffic crashes.

The Knox County Safe Communities Coalition is comprised
of local law enforcement, highway officials, and several
other local agencies. It is funded by the Ohio
Department of Public Safety and the Ohio Traffic Safety Office and is coordinated
by the Knox County Health Department. Buckle Up SignThe objective of Knox County Safe
Communities is to promote community-based solutions to address transportation
safety and other injury problems.

The Safe Communities approach provides exciting opportunities for transportation
safety programs, as well as many payoffs for safety and injury control
advocates as we move forward and focus on reducing injuries and saving health
care costs. Safe Communities is a unique approach to transportation safety
advocacy and motor vehicle injury control.

Current programming includes Youth Safety Councils 
Law enforcement w sign
at local high schools, distribution of awareness materials
with traffic safety messages including banners and posters
at schools and businesses,coasters at bars and restaurants,
floor mats at car dealerships and repair shops and 
an Amish Health & Safety Day.
