June 5, 2012: 

The Knox County Regional Planning Commission (RPC) has released for public comment, a draft version of the 2012 update to the Comprehensive Plan for Knox County.

A Steering Committee made up of RPC members, as well as other prominent members of the community, has been working on the update for approximately a year. Health Commissioner Julie Miller is a member of the steering committee. Read Full Article >

There’s now a safe, convenient way to dispose of old, unwanted medication instead of waiting for the next prescription roundup.

Thanks to the efforts of the Knox Substance Abuse Action Team (KSAAT), two permanent drug drop-off boxes have been purchased and are available to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All drug drop offs are done anonymously. No identification is needed. Read Full Article >



May 15, 2012:

The Knox County Health Department has joined the ranks of most businesses and now accepts debit and credit cards for payment of services. Customers can now use credit and debit cards to pay for medical and dental services, certified birth and death certificates, and all environmental health services including fees for permits and testing. The Knox County Health Department will close at noon on Friday, May 18.

The agency will be closed in the afternoon for an off-site training and staff development program.

May 9, 2012:


Traffic fatalities have increased this year throughout Ohio and many of those deaths were caused because drivers and passengers were not wearing a seatbelt. May 21 is the official start of the annual Click It or Ticket campaign which aims to remind drivers and passengers to wear a seat belt. The Knox County Safe Communities Coalition under the direction of the Knox County Health Department along with the Ohio Highway State Patrol, Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Mount Vernon Police Department are joining forces to reinforce the seatbelt message. In recognition of National Women’s Health Week, the Knox County Health Department  is once again hosting a Healthy Happy Hour. This year’s event will be held Tues.,May 22, from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at Allison’s Finer Diner located at the corner of Coshocton and Upper Gilchrist Rds. Healthy Happy Hour  include a presentation entitled “Gardening for the Health of It” featuring local gardeners.
