Sept. 30, 2016 -  The Knox County Health Department has flu shots for adults and children ages 6 months and older. To receive a shot, you can make an appointment by calling 740-399-8009 or attend a walk-in clinic.

The Health Department accepts most forms of insurance as well as medicare and medicaid for payment.
Otherwise the cost is $30. Please bring your ID and medical or insurance card.

Sept. 22, 2016 - 

Falls are the leading cause of fatal and non- fatal injuries for older Americans with one in five Americans over the age of 65 experiencing a fall every year. However, falling is not a normal part of aging “Usually by making some practical adjustments, most falls can be avoided,” according to Lane Belangia, home health director for the Knox County Health Department.Beginning in January, the health department’s Home Health Division will offer a new program to help senior citizens who have fallen at home. Working in conjunction with local EMS, the home health division will followup with senior citizens who have called EMS when they have fallen. Read full story >>

 
  • Sept. 6, 2016: Now that school is back is session and the football season is underway, it means that flu season is just around the corner. The Health Department will offer flu shots this year at 17 community clinics including clinics in Centerburg, Danville, Apple Valley, Fredericktown, Gambier and several clinics at the health department. We’ll also offer flu shots at the Senior Resource Day on Sept. 21, at First Friday on Oct. 6 and at The Station Break on Oct. 27. There will be no drive-thru flu clinic this year. Aug. 19, 2016: Following a single confirmed case of crypto in an individual who swam at Hiawatha Water Park and Pool, the Knox County Health Department  has recommended that pool officials hyperchlorinate the pool. The health department was contacted by Mount Vernon city officials after notification from the affected individual. Aug. 10, 2016: The Knox County Safe Community Coalition will kick-off the Labor Day traffic safety campaign on Saturday during the Dan Emmett Music and Arts Festival. The annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign highlights the dangers of drunk driving. Read the full story >>

 

Aug. 10, 2016: Another ServSafe class has been added for those unable to get into the fall program. The new three-day session is scheduled for Jan. 11, 18 and 25. Effective March 1, 2017, for all Level III and IV food establishments, one employee that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control food preparation and service shall obtain a level two certification in food protection according to rule 3701-21-25 of the Administrative Code.  Click here for the registration form.
