Dec. 2, 2016: About 80 percent of the Project Dawn kits distributed in Knox County were affected by last month’s recall. According to Mary Derr, director of nursing with Knox County Health Department, almost all of the defective atomizers have been replaced in the nearly 50 kits distributed by the health department which included kits given to local law enforcement and to residents who requested them.  Read full story >>

Nov. 28, 2016: To help local food service operations meet the new state requirement, the Environmental Health staff will offer Level I and Level II food safety workshops throughout 2017.  The Level I Person-in-Charge Class is one 2-hour session and is offered at no charge. The Level II ServSafe Training consists of three one-day sessions held over three weeks. The cost for the ServSafe training is $193. For more information, click below for a complete schedule of training sessions and a registration form.  Rule 3717-1-2.4 of the Ohio Administrative Code requires for each Level 3 & 4 food service operation, that at least one employee who has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control food preparation and service, obtain the level two certification in food protection.

Nov. 4, 2016: In observance of Veteran’s Day, the Knox County Health Department will be closed on Friday, Nov. 11. Since this is a pickup day for water samples, no samples will be collected on Thursday.  However, water samples will still be accepted during normal collection times on Tuesday before 4 p.m,. and on Wednesday before 9:30 a.m.


The pick-up schedule will also be affected later this month when the health department is closed Nov. 24-25 in observance of Thanksgiving. During that week, water samples will be once again only accepted on Tuesday before 4 p.m,. and on Wednesday before 9:30 a.m.

Nov. 2, 2016: The Knox County Health Department has received a $25,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) to continue to promote traffic safety awareness. The funding is used to coordinate the Knox County Safe Communities Coalition. The coalition works with local law enforcement and other agencies to educate and promote awareness of traffic safety issues such as seat belt restraint usage, impaired and distracted driving, speed, motorcycle safety, and teen driver safety.
