Aug. 10, 2016: Another ServSafe class has been added for those unable to get into the fall program. The new three-day session is scheduled for Jan. 11, 18 and 25. Effective March 1, 2017, for all Level III and IV food establishments, one employee that has supervisory and management responsibility and the authority to direct and control food preparation and service shall obtain a level two certification in food protection according to rule 3701-21-25 of the Administrative Code.  Click here for the registration form.

Aug. 4, 2016: The Knox County Health Department will offer two special walk-in clinics for immunizations: Aug. 9 and Aug 16, from 2-6 p.m. both days. These clinics are specifically for back-to-school immunizations. No other immunizations will be offered at these clinics. Read full story >>

 

Aug. 4, 2016:  Registration is now full for the November ServSafe class at the Knox County Health Department. There will be no other ServSafe class offerings this year. Aug. 4, 2016 - The next mid-week farmers’ market  at the Knox County Health Department isTuesday, Aug, 16 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. in the agency’s south-side parking lot.

This year marks the fifth year for the mid-week market which is held on the first and third Tuesday in July, August and September.

Exhibitors at the mid-week market are the same growers that sell at the Saturday market on the Public Square in downtown Mount Vernon. The health department market is open to the general public and is held rain or shine. In the case of inclement weather, the food demonstration will be moved inside. In addition to purchasing locally grown produce, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about freezing vegetables. Julie Divelbiss from Danville will talk about how to freeze vegetables with an emphasis on "freezing in the freshness."  She will be demonstrating how to make freezer slaw and will have samples on hand for attendees.
