The holidays are in full swing and no matter what holidays you are celebrating this month, there is an abundance of food, a change in routine, gatherings and parties. What can you do to keep you and your family healthy while still having fun?
Healthy Recipes
Cookies, pies, drinks, and plenty of mashed potatoes are abundant this month. While we can indulge a bit, we also want to keep our healthy eating habits. We have rounded up some great tasting, healthy recipes to make food choices a bit better. Check out these websites for some tasty, healthy choices:
- 41 Healthy Christmas Recipes
- Budget-friendly delicious recipes
- Healthy Desserts—we love the fruit kabobs!
- Eating On A Dime (we searched Christmas recipes and look what we found!)
Exercise
It’s winter, it’s cold, and you’re busy! Are you getting some sort of exercise each day? We’ve got easy exercises you can do anywhere-even the kitchen!
- Kitchen exercises—cook and exercise together. Check out these two websites: Burn Calories While You Cook and Shape Up While Cooking
- Exercises to do inside—no excuse since it’s cold! https://www.healthline.com/health/fitness-exercise/at-home-workouts
Don’t forget to get outside and walk or run when the weather cooperates. Go sledding with the kids or build a snowman (it’s a lot of work to roll the snow into the shape of a snowman)!
A Few Tips
- Keep up eating seasonal fruits and vegetables (like apples, avocados, carrots, bananas)
- Wash your hands frequently
- Don’t drink and drive
- Have a healthy snack before going to a party
- Eat the cookie, just don’t eat them all
- Drink water—we tend to forget to drink water in the winter
- Get enough sleep
- Try to avoid stress (we know-that’s really hard this month!)
Holiday Playlist
Exercise and cooking shouldn’t happen without a bit of music. We found some holiday playlists to keep you energized and in the holiday spirit.
- iHeart Radio Christmas (download the free app)
- And a Christmas workout playlist! (OK, there’s no excuse to miss your workout now ☺)
The holidays are here and we are excited to eat, spend time with family and friends, and revel in the merriment! But remember to eat healthy and get some exercise!
